Dr. Murianki is a music education scholar, clinician, and performer whose work bridges choral and popular music pedagogies, multicultural education, and emerging practices in music therapy. He is currently pursuing a Master of Music Therapy at the University of Kansas, building on his Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Florida and earlier training at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya.
His research explores African choral and popular music, narrative inquiries into music education in Kenya, and the role of music-based interventions in health and well-being. He has published on music therapy approaches for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and has presented at international conferences including the International Society for Music Education (ISME), the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM), and the Kenya Scholars and Studies Association (KESSA).
As an educator, Murianki has taught courses in music education, conducting, and African culture at the University of Kansas, University of Florida, and Kenyatta University. He is also an active performer and ensemble leader, founding the Sounds of Sub-Sahara Ensemble and directing choirs in Kenya and the United States. His work emphasizes cultural sustainability, community engagement, and the power of music to foster justice and global understanding.
